Sick

Jackson had another rough morning which turned into a good afternoon.  He had a fever of 101, but after Tylenol it hasn't returned.  He had another crying spell after breakfast lasting 2 hours again.  He still won't let me carry him or hold him, although I did take him away from Andrew during all that crying so Andrew could get a break.  Andrew took the girls to the pool and I had Jackson in the carrier and walked around the hotel with everyone looking to see whose kid was crying.

He's did better the rest of the day.  He even fed me some of his food and initiated some play with me.  He'll turn to me for a kiss after Andrew and I demonstrate what it looks like!  But if I try to give Andrew a hug while he's holding Jackson, Jackson will try to push me away.   And if he can get away with it he'll prefer Andrew to feed him.  If Andrew refuses to give in to that and I'm holding out a spoonful of delicious food for him to take it's quite amusing to see the dilemma going on in his eyes.  He hesitates and you can finally see he really wants that food so he'll give in.  And then he's fine.

Kaylee has been sick today.  She's not been eating or drinking well and that is very unusual for her.  Then she felt very warm on the van ride to the police station (that's where they process the adoption certificate) and she ended up throwing up in the waiting room there.  Luckily it was mostly water.  She kept down some Gatorade this evening, but hasn't eaten yet.  I think it must be a virus as there are no cold symptoms or diarrhea or anything else.  Even my stomach is feeling a bit nauseous tonight and I'm trying to not think about it!

Tomorrow we were going to go to the Safari Park, but feel it's too risky and we'll try for next week with more of the group here.  We're also going to skip the standard tour of one of the museums in town.  We did it last year and there is absolutely no interest for kids there.   And with it being so hot that just makes dehydration worse.

The hardest thing about being here is finding healthy food the kids will eat.  They won't even drink the milk as it tastes different.  They eat decent for breakfast and that's about it.   We're not really into restaurants with kids anyway, which makes it harder, and we're finding eating out quite expensive.  As much as in the US anyway.  Tonight we went to a recommended Italian place, ordered 2 bottles of water and a pizza.  The water turned out to be nearly as expensive as the pizza at $4 each!  I think if we'd known that we might have ordered a Coke or something!   And then before the pizza even came we had to change our order to make it carry out as Kaylee was starting to cry.  So we walked the 15 minutes back to the hotel balancing a pizza box on top of one of the strollers, hearing Sydney whining about being hot, tired and her shoes hurting, and trying to avoid the traffic that's so close to the narrow, uneven sidewalks!

Well, everyone is asleep now and Jackson didn't cry going down.  But he did need Andrew to lay right beside him until he fell asleep.  At least he didn't need held.  We'll see if he can go longer than every 2 hours of waking up crying tonight.   Poor Andrew.  He can't even go into the bathroom without the kid screaming!

I reminded Andrew to post some more photos later.  We've still been waking up before 5 am, so he may have time in the night if he's awake.  This morning we weren't waiting for the breakfast to open at 6 as we didn't get there until 6:30!
