Midnight snacks

It's 2am and we're all awake. Sydney woke up saying her tummy was rumbling and telling her it wanted crackers and milk. We have about 45 channels on our TV; the only two English channels are BBC World and HBO. Everything else is in Chinese and consists of infomercials, shopping channels, some news and sports, and various musical vaiety shows.

One thing about China (and I guess other similar countries) is that because of lack of space in the city everything is built up instead of out. Walmart is in a shopping center and is at least 5 stories. You can go between floors on a moving sidewalk (similar to the ones at the airport) the wheels of the carts have grooves that it into the sidewalk so it is easy to take your cart from floor to floor.

Dinner last night was a hawaiian pizza for Sydney, beef noodle soup, and an excellent seafood pasta with lots of mussels, scallops, shrimp, and something chewy that was probably squid, although I don't know for sure. The pasta had lots of garlic cloves which reminded me of a story we read in the China Daily newspaper. Beijing is making lots of improvements for the 2008 Olympics. As part of the improvements taxi drivers are being asked to learn another language, have a cheerful personality, and not eat garlic with their meals!!

Finally a big thanks to our friend Malinda (who just recently arrived back from China) for letting us know how to view our blog and how to change the instructions into English so we can be sure of what we're doing.
