The neurosurgeon Kaylee just saw here is also recommending surgery for her tethered spinal cord. So, we've scheduled it for Monday, October 15th. It sounds minor in the grand scheme of things if surgery can ever be minor. It will only take an hour and an overnight stay.
We're having some issues with only using Little Tummys to keep Kaylee regular. So, the doctor is having us put her back on Miralax in addition to the laxative. I think the problem is that not only does she have IA which affects the nerves and muscles in that area, but she developed megacolon from all the months in China of living with only a small opening to poop from. Consequently, her colon is very stretched and dilated and can hold a lot! It takes a lot of pressure to force stuff out and it's much easier to push out liquid than solids. Even today, she's still passing stuff they broke up in surgery in Cincy almost 2 weeks ago.
It's going to be a lot of trial and error to find the combination that will work with her unique system. I'm confident it can be done and, for her sake, done quickly.
I forgot to mention that in doing yesterday's echocardiogram it was a real answer to prayer that the test was able to be done accurately and easily. Kaylee just laid on the table with me feeding her Cheerios and watching a Baby Einstein video we brought. She didn't fuss or hardly move for the entire 20 minute procedure except to get her hand to her mouth to eat the Cheerios!
