fall ramblings

We've been doing several fall activities and enjoying the beautiful weather--in between the stretches of rain. The kids got to enjoy horseback riding at a local festival. Kaylee had a BLAST and couldn't stop smiling. Sydney also had a smile. Jackson ran to get on first, didn't bat an eye when a stranger picked him up and put him in the saddle and didn't look back when they started off around the field. UNTIL he got about 1/2 way around and then he freaked out! I was across the field with Kaylee and far enough away I couldn't hear him, but I could see him, so I had to go rescue him. That's my boy! Impulsive, a risk taker, and yet scared of heights. Would that mean stunt flying is not in his future?

The girls had a bout of flu a month ago, and although they weren't tested, it was most likely the swine kind since that's what's around. Thankfully none of the rest of us have been sick and the girls recovered after a few days.

Sydney was given a little 2 wheeled bike with trainers, and is really enjoying riding it. Last night just she and Andrew went to a school parking lot for her to ride in. Andrew said she was going really fast, and it's time for a helmet and pads. Once she learns to use the brake consistently we'll take off those training wheels. I'm so proud of her. She used to be really timid with things like that. Even when she was three she wouldn't walk upright on playgound equipment that was off the ground. She would either crawl or walk hunched over close to the sides.

I imagine if Kaylee had a bike small enough she would be riding it without training wheels already. She is very physically agile, quick, coordinated, and not timid! Her legs are always covered with bruises in various stages of healing from her escapades. The only time that girl isn't moving is when she's asleep and is dead to the world. She's also my early riser :( and is up around 6 every morning. She's truly a middle child as she plays happily with either Sydney or Jackson. She's also one who will often go off and play by herself.

Until next time.....
